Keep The Aim!

The first Gulf War was brought about by the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. Iraq annexed Kuwait by invading a sovereign nation and simply taking it over. America responded by fighting Iraq and driving them out of Kuwait. This war was over in a few days as the Iraqi forces fled before the Americans invaded. Even though the Americans could have pursued the Iraqis and destroyed the Iraqi army they did not do so. This would have been very possible for the Americans who were ready for a big fight. But they had to maintain the aim and the purpose of the war that they had embarked upon.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye STEADFAST, UNMOVABLE, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Before a military operation will be possible, there has to be an aim for that operation. Aim selection and maintaining the aim is the number one principle of war! To have a successful military operation, you have to select an aim for the operation which is possible to achieve and maintain this aim until you have successfully executed the operation. 

As believers, we have been commanded to also fight a type of war! In case you think the Christian life is a life of free will and "I can do whatever I want" type of life, you may have to rethink. To win the war against lust, you have to fight. To win the war against the devil, you have to fight. To win the war of doing the right things, you must fight but not with physical weapons but we have been commanded in Ephesians 6:11-18 to put on the armour of God to be able to fight. 

Are you a student? What is the aim of you going to school? It is important to select the purpose of a decision and keep at it. You can be easily deviated from your purpose by the vicissitudes of life. If you're in school to study, why are you not studying? Why are you not focused on the main reason why you are there? To be a good general you have to know the original aim of what you're doing and keep at it. The American soldiers would have continue to fight and pursue the Iraqi but that was not the aim for the operation.  Are you a business man or woman? Why did you start the business? Select a good aim and keep at it.  

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 

1 Timothy 6:12

Over the years, many people have tried to change the aim of the church. Some churches are now seen as social clubs who must do any other thing except to seek and save that which is lost. It is the military generals/ commanders who select the aim for a specific operation. All soldiers have to do is to keep the aim unless they receive another command from the generals. Today, the church has largely set aside its one and only aim to win the lost souls of this world for Jesus Christ. Paul had this one aim: “ For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified ” (1 Corinthians 2:2). Why are we now fighting amongst ourselves over things that aren't of value? while we've set aside the number one aim of the church. The mistake of many Christians is to think that the church is the pastor, the assistant and their family members. All the aims of the church selected by our Lord Jesus Christ is to be carried out by every Christian. Why are you not a soul winner? We claim to be Christians while we've set aside the aim of the mission. Let us begin by learning what God requires of us and do it. Start preaching the Word of God to everyone. This is the aim.

Just as every product has an aim for its creation, and every institution has its goal, humans who have also been created have a purpose or an aim for their creation. This is why Jesus taught us to pray for the will of God to be done in our lives. You know, there praying for the will of God is probably the best prayer to pray for your life. Just imagine if Jesus had listened to his disciples when they rebuked him from going to the cross; the whole earth would have been something else. Jesus knew the importance of keeping the aim for which he came to this planet and so he didn't listen to Peter in Matthew 16:23 but recognized the voice the devil and rebuked him. Why are you on earth? Why are you here at this time and not 10 years after or 4 years before your birthday? If the mission on earth is just to school, get a job, pay bills,  make babies, die and rot in the grave, then what is the difference between us and a chicken?

God who created you has a reason, an aim, and a purpose for creating you. Just as you'll read the manual to know how to operate your tv, God has a manual for you - His Word. Study the Bible, pray, listen to preaching messages, you can use the materials I have recommended here. 

Know the mission and what is required of us as believers and as human beings and get to the work "for the night cometh when no man can work"...John 9:4
