Accountability

Accountability or answerability can be simply defined to as having responsibility to someone for some activity done. Throughout life, we are faced with stages of accountability. Even in school, it is required that a student accounts for what he / she has learned over a period before he / she can be promoted to the next stage.

The same principle works in workplaces. Bosses require accountability from employees, the board of directors, from managers, parents, from children, governments, from citizens and citizens from the governments. So accountability is always required whenever there is a  responsibility. Responsibility therefore, is the state of having a duty to perform certain actions and hence, you are held answerable for that duty to whoever entrusts the responsibility to you. We can conclude that the summary of our life is to be accountable one way or the other to the tasks given to us by the one who made us.

It is so surprising to then live as though we have no responsibility in life. I hear most people of this generation say things like  "it is my life, it is my rule, and I can do whatever I want with it". This is wrong on all levels. How come it is your life if you have no control over how you acquired "your" life and don't know exactly when "your" life will be taken from you? There is a day of accountability of whatever we do. When we eat, the time for accountability of what we've eaten is when we go to the toilet ... when we eat something that is not good, the body accounts for it by falling sick (an indication that we've taken something bad for the body). The same way,

In this case, moreover, it is required [as essential and demanded] of  stewards  that one be found faithful and trustworthy

1 Corinthians 4: 2 (AMP).

There are several instances in the Bible where we're reminded of being faithful to the main reason for our creation. It is not simply enough to recognize the fact that we are to be accountable ... but we're also to act accountably.

It is an error to claim unto yourself a duty that has not been given you by the designer of your life. Sometimes, we generally ascribe the results to ourselves and praise ourselves for our achievements because we did the work. You passed the exam? thank God you have eyes to read, brains to study and understand and that your hands can write (not everyone is able to use their hands), you've worked hard and got the promotion? thank God that you are alive in the first place, and that you have the strength and opportunity to work hard. Bible says  let everything that has breath praise the Lord . Nobody has the audacity to ascribe praise to himself and not thank God for the grace to work and be alive

Why Do I Have To Think About Accountability?

First of all, we must come to the conclusion that our lives are not our own. But we have been given life and that no one should boast. Therefore, the responsibility of the life which you have been given can only be defined by the creator of that life ... and not your books you read or the opinions of others who did not create themselves as well. Many people have different opinions on why and what they can use their lives to do. Just know this one thing; that the life you have, is given to you and you will have to account to the "Giver of life" what you have used the life for, as to if for His purpose or for another private agenda.

1. You have to think about the day of accountability because you did not create yourself.

Psalm 100: 3 (NKJV) Know that the Lord, He is God; IT IS HE WHO HAS MADE US, AND NOT WE OURSELVES; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Today, people think that they cannot be corrected by the Bible and hence do as they please. Living your life as though you are the creator of yourself is like taking the place of God. You know that you cannot create even an ant, and you have not created the land on which you stand now, yet you live as though the world was created by you and for you. Beloved, let us repent from our ways and stop unnecessary arguments as to if the earth came by an explosion or if it was created. know this " IT IS HE WHO HAS MADE US, AND NOT WE OURSELVES"

2. You have to think about the day of accountability because there is a day of accountability

Romans 14:11-12 (NKJV) For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” SO THEN EACH OF US SHALL GIVE ACCOUNT FOR HIMSELF TO GOD.

Paul is writing to Christians here and he just finished asking the Roman Christians, “why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ” (Rom 14:10). When we judge others, we're simply saying that the people are not living up to certain standards. This goes to show that we are aware of certain "standards" that we as people should live up to. How then are we ignorant of the fact that there is a standard to which we're all subject to since we did not create ourselves?

It's surprising how we humans in today's world disregard God's standards and set our own standards ... we have even come up with phrases like "humanity first". Really? When you do the will of God, everything will fall in place. God isn't against helping others, in fact, our judgment will also be determined by how we treat other people. When you're employed, you do as your employer describes in the job description, not your own standards, else you'll be sacked.

3. You have to be conscious of the day of accountability because we are created for a purpose.

Anytime a manufacturer produces something, that thing is for a purpose and it is only the manufacturer of a product that determines what the product should do, can do, and should not do and so for the product to function properly and be successful, it must be used in accordance to the instructions and guidance of the manual.

Ecclesiates 12:1,13-14 (KJV) Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come,... Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

The same way, God made you for a purpose. The purpose of God is determined by God and not by what we think. To be successful as humans, the only way is to live by the instructions of our "Manufacturer" or our Creator and Lord Jehovah. To fear God and do His commandments is to love God and obey Him. It is not just okay to memorise the laws, it is to be obeyed which is to have faith in God. Jesus Christ gave us an instruction to go and preach the gospel to all creation and to make disciples for Him.

Matthew 28: 18-20 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. ” Amen.

Luke 12: 42-43 (NKJV) And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.

The only way we can find purpose for our lives is when we know who made us and know why He made us. That is the only way we will not live outside His will and condemn ourselves to hell.

Brothers and sisters, just as you require accountability from your government authorities (because you voted them into power to represent you), the same way Jehovah who made all things will require accountability from us and test our works and motives to see if we used the life He gave us to please him or to please ourselves.

Remember ★★★

But now is the time. Never forget the warning, "Today if you hear God's voice speaking to you, do not harden your hearts against him, as the people of Israel did when they rebelled against him in the desert." Romans 3:15 (TLB)

I want to invite you to give your life to Christ Jesus and to find out the reason why you're alive so that when your time on earth is done, you will give a good report of what you came to do here on earth. Click here and pray this prayer with me.
